This past summer I presented Ventriloquism FUN-damentals at the 2014 Vent Haven International Ventriloquist ConVENTion. I was amazed at how many people attended what I felt was a very basic Ventriloquism 101 lesson. It goes to show that a solid foundation in the skills is extremely important.
Beginners who want to be ventriloquists are usually looking for the magic bullet. The secret of sound or letter substitutions so they can say the hard labial letters. I'm here to tell you, there is no magic bullet. It isn't that hard with proper instruction, but practice is the key.
Most don't want to hear that. They want instant gratification. Sorry, this is the wrong art for that. You want instant - buy a self-working magic trick and become a magician. There is a reason there are so few good ventriloquists.
